The man who helped Sydney win the bid to host the 2000 Olympics, Rod McGeoch, will share his story at the annual Wollongong and South Coast Legacy Business and Community luncheon.

Legacy Business & Community Support Committee Chairman David Swan said Mr McGeoch’s experience and success across a wealth of fields made him an ideal speaker for the luncheon on Friday 30 August.

“The drive to succeed, to be the best you can, and to continually grow whatever your circumstances is something everyone can relate to,” he said.

The Legacy luncheon seeks to raise funds to help the widows and dependents of military personnel killed as a result of military action.

Since 2008, Illawarra and South Coast Legacy has raised more than $400,000 through the event.

Mr McGeoch has had a long career encompassing law, business, arts and sports administration.

The co-Chairman of the Australia New Zealand Leadership Forum, Mr McGeoch is also a Director of Ramsay Health Care Limited and a member of the board of Destination NSW.

In 2013 he also became an Officer of the Order of Australia in recognition of his “distinguished service to the community through contributions to a range of organisations, and to sport, particularly through leadership in securing the Sydney Olympic Games”.

As speaker at this year’s Legacy luncheon, Mr McGeoch will share his understanding of how to thrive in a competitive environment and find that secret to success.
