A Dapto woman has claimed a $400,000 Saturday Lotto win more than a week after the draw after discovering that the winning ticket, a birthday gift from her brother, had secured her a division-one prize.
She was one of 13 division-one winners in Saturday Lotto draw 4509 on 5 October, with each lucky entrant receiving $401,209.07.
The woman had no idea she was a winner until she checked her ticket, which was not registered to a player card, leaving officials from The Lott waiting for her to come forward.
“It’s the biggest blessing we could have ever received, and it couldn’t have come at a better time,” she said.
“I got the ticket as a birthday gift from my brother. He gave me a little lottery bundle and the winning ticket was in it.
“I’ll definitely be getting him something as a thank you. It’s the best birthday gift ever.”
The winning entry was purchased at newsXpress Dapto, and the woman said the timing couldn’t be better.
“We’re so grateful. It helps out so much in these times,” she said.
“We’re in the midst of some major life changes, so this was just a blessing.”
She said while the ticket was a gift, she and her husband regularly played Lotto.
“It’s funny because my husband and I play each week using the same marked numbers each time but this one that my brother got me was just a random QuickPick,” she said.
“We usually win something like $10 to $40. Once we won $400, but that seems like nothing compared to this.”
Among the 13 division-one prize winners nationally, two were from New South Wales.
This win brings The Lott’s tally of first-division wins in 2024 to 359, including 102 from NSW Lotteries customers.
In the 2024 financial year, Saturday Lotto created 158 millionaires across Australia.
Nationwide during this time, there were 291 division-one-winning Saturday Lotto entries, which collectively won more than $436 million.
