Meet our lovable Pets of the Week looking for forever homes while at the RSPCA Illawarra Shelter
Dog of the week: George
Meet George!
George is an eight-month-old cattle dog-kelpie cross pup with a heart full of love and energy.
As a blend of two true-blue working breeds, George is intelligent, active, and loyal.
He is the perfect companion for someone looking for an energetic pup to join them on their adventures.
Cattle dogs and kelpies are known for their smarts and stamina, and are fantastic pets for active, involved families who love the outdoors.
George would thrive with an owner who has some breed experience or is willing to do their research on how to best care for working dogs and ensure his needs are met.
Puppies like George bring so much joy and excitement to a home, as they are full of curiosity and playfulness and, with the right training and care, have the potential to grow into well-rounded adult dogs.
As this sweet boy is still young, his new family will need to be open to committing to ongoing positive reinforcement training and socialisation, as this will be key to helping him grow into a confident and well-behaved adult.
While he’s still a little shy when meeting new people, George warms up quickly and would love to meet the whole family – including any doggie siblings – before heading home.
It’s best that George goes home with human siblings who are confident around dogs and over the age of 12 as he can be a bit boisterous at times!
When you’re not home, George will be happy with fun toys, treats, and a cosy bed in a secure space.
Like all growing pups, he’ll also need plenty of rest, so having a quiet area for him to nap after a big day of play will keep him happy and healthy.
Cat of the week: Gypsy
Meet Gypsy!
Gypsy is a gorgeous one-year-old calico girl hoping her forever home is just around the corner.
After coming into care through no fault of her own, Gypsy has blossomed into the beautiful, affectionate cat she is today.
Calico cats like Gypsy are known for their striking tri-colored coats and unique personalities.
Due to their genetics, calico cats are almost always female, which is a fun fact! They are also known for having quirky personalities that never fail to brighten their families’ days.
Gypsy is a sweet girl who loves her independence; however, she is friendly to those she trusts and loves to be around you once she lets you into her inner circle! Her friendly and gentle nature makes her the perfect companion for someone seeking a calm, affectionate cat to share their home with.
Gypsy enjoys exploring new corners of her world, from quiet windowsills to cosy spots where she can observe everything around her.
She would thrive in a quiet home, as loud noises can make her nervous. For this reason, she’s best suited to a household with children over six years old, where she can relax in her own time. A “launch room” to help her settle into her new home would be ideal and allow her to feel secure as she adjusts.
Gypsy has come from a background where she had a lot of freedom and little guidance or training on how to navigate the home. An owner who is patient, understanding and willing to take it slowly with her and help her learn how to live her life in the comfort of a loving home would be perfect for this charming girl.
If you’re looking for a warm, independent, and sweet cat to add joy to your home, Gypsy is the perfect match.
