The construction company behind several notable Illawarra builds has landed the job to deliver one of Corrimal’s most significant residential projects in recent times.

Developer Legacy Property has appointed Growthbuilt as its construction partner for the highly anticipated development, The Works Corrimal.

Growthbuilt is no stranger to the region having been appointed to build Shell Cove’s Crowne Plaza Hotel, St Luke’s Village in Dapto, Port Kembla’s Steelworks Hotel and Kiama Village.

The appointment marks a significant milestone for the project, with apartment construction expected to commence in early 2025 following the completion of essential preparatory works.

The Works Corrimal, designed by architects DKO, is a major urban regeneration project set to transform 18 hectares of prime Corrimal real estate at the site of the former Corrimal Coke Works, which has been closed to the public for a century.

Stage one of the development will feature five residential buildings, comprising 180 high-quality apartments that will offer residents contemporary living spaces in Wollongong’s first 5-star Green Star-rated community.

The salvaging and stabilisation of heritage structures by Perfect Contracting Demolition is complete, and ABAX Contracting has been appointed as the civil contractor for stage one earthworks, including site servicing and roadworks.

This phase is scheduled for completion in early 2025, setting the stage for apartment construction to begin shortly thereafter.

The project will deliver much-needed residential housing to the area and contribute to Wollongong’s ongoing growth.

Legacy Property senior project director Steve Ball said Growthbuilt aligned with the vision for The Works Corrimal.

“Growthbuilt brings extensive experience in residential construction, particularly in the Illawarra and Southern Sydney regions, and their ICIRT rating underscores their commitment to quality and trust,” he said.

“This partnership will ensure the successful delivery of this landmark project for Corrimal and Wollongong.”

Growthbuilt general manager Adam Ashcroft said Growthbuilt was excited to be a part of the development.

“We are proud of our track record in the region and look forward to delivering these exceptional homes in partnership with Legacy Property,” he said.

“Our team is eager to bring this transformative project to life, creating a vibrant new community for Corrimal.”
