A 17-year-old boy is due to appear in a children’s court today following a high-speed chase through Berkeley and Lake Heights.
A NSW Police spokesperson said officers attached to Lake Illawarra Police District were patrolling Northcliffe Drive, Berkeley, at about 10 am on Monday (4 November), when they attempted to stop the rider of an unregistered motorbike.
When the rider allegedly failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated.
“Police will allege in court the motorbike was reaching speeds of up to 120 km/h in a sign-posted 60 km/h zone, with the pursuit terminated a short time later due to safety concerns,” the NSW Police spokesperson said.
“A short time later, the rider hit a car on Flagstaff Road, Lake Heights.
“NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the alleged rider – a 17-year-old boy – for leg injuries.
“The male driver of the other vehicle and his two-year-old passenger escaped injury.
“The teen was taken to Wollongong Hospital under police guard before being released and taken to Wollongong Police Station where he was charged with five offences.”
The teen was charged with not stopping and driving recklessly during a police pursuit, being a never-licensed person driving a vehicle on a road, using an unregistered registrable Class A motor vehicle, using an uninsured motor vehicle and possessing a prohibited drug.
He was refused bail to appear in a children’s court on Tuesday (5 November).
