NSW Police have charged a man after he allegedly drove a car into another man near Dapto yesterday (7 November).
A NSW Police spokesperson said that at about 8 pm on Thursday police were called to the Princes Highway at the intersection of Kanahooka Road, Brownsville, after reports of a crash.
“Police attached to Lake Illawarra Police District attended and were told two men – aged 28 and 49 – were involved in an altercation before the older man allegedly drove a vehicle towards the younger man, pinning him between two vehicles,” the NSW Police spokesperson said.
“The 28-year-old was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before he was flown to St George Hospital in a serious condition.
Police allege the 49-year-old man drove from the scene and “attended Dapto Police Station a short time later, where he was arrested and subjected to mandatory blood and urine testing, before being taken to Wollongong Hospital for further testing”.
“He was later released and taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station where he was charged with dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm, dangerous driving, fail to stop and assist after vehicle impact causing grievous bodily harm, negligent driving causing grievous bodily harm, and contravene a domestic apprehended violence order.”
The man was refused bail and will appear at Wollongong Local Court today (8 November).
Police established a crime scene, which was assessed by officers from the Crash Investigations Unit.
Initial inquiries have led police to believe the two men are known to each other.
