Teens charged after police chase stolen car through Dapto, Figtree

Two teenagers have been charged after a police pursuit through south Wollongong.

A NSW Police spokesperson said that at about 3 pm on Wednesday (13 November), officers attached to Lake Illawarra Police District were patrolling Lakelands Drive, Dapto, when they attempted to stop an allegedly stolen vehicle.

“The driver allegedly failed to stop, and a pursuit was initiated,” the NSW Police spokesperson said.

“The car travelled north on the M1 Motorway before the pursuit was terminated due to safety concerns.

“A short time later, officers from Southern Operations Support Group reinitiated a pursuit on the M1 near the Berkeley off-ramp.

“At about 3 pm, the car collided with another vehicle on the Princes Highway, Figtree, near Obrien’s Road.”

The police spokesperson said the teens and the male driver of the other car were not injured.

The 17-year-old male driver was arrested at the scene.

The 16-year-old male passenger allegedly fled on foot and ran into nearby bushland before he was arrested a short time later.

The teenagers were taken to Wollongong Police Station where the 17-year-old boy was charged with not stopping for a police pursuit and driving dangerously; taking and driving conveyance without consent of the owner; never licenced person driving a vehicle on the road and hindering or resisting a police officer in execution of duty.

The 16-year-old boy was charged with being carried in a conveyance taken without the consent of the owner and carrying a cutting weapon upon apprehension.

They were both refused bail to appear at a children’s court today (14 November).
