Meet our loveable Pets of the Week looking for forever homes while at the RSPCA Illawarra Shelter

Dog of the week: Max

Meet Max!

Max is a spirited one-year-old German shepherd with a big heart and an even bigger love for adventure.

Like many German shepherds, Max is loyal, intelligent, and eager to learn, making him a fantastic companion for the right family.

Max is looking for a loving home where he can share his playful energy and continue to learn about the world.

Max has a big, curious personality, and he finds birds very exciting – maybe a little too exciting – so he’d be happiest in a home without any feathered friends.

Max is comfortable both indoors and outdoors. He’d love a home where he can enjoy time with his family inside and also have outdoor access to play and explore. A secure fence would be perfect to help keep him safe!

Since Max hasn’t had much experience with younger children, he’d do best in a home with kids over 12.

If there are younger family members, he’ll need to meet them first to ensure a good match.

Max is used to being around other dogs and even lived with some before, though he isn’t a big fan of sharing his food! With this in mind, if you have another dog at home, it would be best to bring them to the shelter for a meet-and-greet to see whether they’re a good fit.

Although he might look tough, loud noises like thunderstorms or fireworks can make Max a little nervous, so he’d appreciate a cosy crate or quiet space where he can feel secure during those times.

Max is a fun-loving, energetic dog who may occasionally jump up in excitement, but with positive reinforcement training, he’s sure to learn polite greetings in no time.

If you’re ready to welcome a loyal, playful friend, Max would love to meet you! He’s excited to bring joy, adventure, and a touch of shepherd mischief into his new family’s life.

Philly is smooth as cream cheese when it comes to making his humans crack a smile. Could this funny bun have a home with you?

Rabbit of the week: Philly

Meet Philly!

Philly is a grey lop rabbit with a cheeky personality and a heart full of curiosity!

He loves exploring his surroundings, investigating new corners of his enclosure, and discovering fun toys to keep him entertained.

With Philly, there’s no room for boredom, every day is an adventure!

He’s a friendly little guy, eager to meet new people and make friends.

Philly’s playful nature and knack for mischief make him a delightful character. He’s forever finding clever ways to make his family smile.

Rabbits like Philly make fantastic pets – they’re social, intelligent, and full of charm.

With his cheeky attitude, Philly would thrive where he can have plenty of supervised time outside his enclosure to explore, hop around, and interact with his human companions in the home or a secure run.

Being a social rabbit, his family will need to be able to spend quality time with him every day.

Rabbits are best suited to families who can provide a safe, bunny-proofed environment.

Philly would be a wonderful match for gentle children and adults alike, but younger kids may need a bit of guidance on how to handle him carefully.

He also has a calm side, and enjoys soft pats in his quiet moments.

Most rabbits aren’t a fan of being picked up too much, and Philly is no exception, finding life much more enjoyable with four fluffy paws on the ground.

Among Philly’s favourite activities is one he does almost around the clock – eating!

Philly is a big fan of his hay and if he’s well stocked up, will happily munch the day away.

If you happen to have some carrot or apple pieces, you’ll have an instant best friend!

If you’re looking for a lively, affectionate, and cheeky friend to add joy to your home, Philly might be the perfect fit.

Last week’s pets, Pudge and Nala, are still looking for their forever homes.

Visit the RSPCA at 54 Industrial Rd, Unanderra, and add a new companion to your life – you won’t regret it! Opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday, 10 am to 3:30 pm. Closed Mondays and public holidays. Call 4271 3410.
