A man will face court after shooting in Corrimal shortly before Easter.
At about 4 pm on Wednesday (16 April), emergency services were called to a unit complex on The Avenue, Corrimal, after reports of a shooting.
A NSW Police spokesperson said on arrival officers from Wollongong Police District were informed that a number of shots had been fired into a unit at the location.
A short time later police arrested a 58-year-old man from the complex at the scene.
“It will be alleged that a number of firearms were located in the man’s unit,” the NSW Police spokesperson said.
“It will be further alleged that a 55-year-old woman residing with the man at the unit had earlier been assaulted by him.
“She was not injured.
“A 46-year-old male occupant of the unit that had been shot at was uninjured.
“It is believed that both men are known to one another.”
Police established a crime scene that was examined by specialist officers.
The 58-year-old was taken to Wollongong Police Station before being taken to Wollongong Hospital as a precaution.
He was later discharged and returned to Wollongong Police Station and charged with 13 offences.
Those offences included domestic assault, destroying or damaging property, stalking or intimidating, using a firearm under the influence of drugs or alcohol, firing a firearm at a home with a disregard for safety, possessing an unregistered or prohibited firearm, possessing a shortened firearm without authority and not keeping a firearm safely.
The man was refused bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court on Thursday (17 April) where he was remanded in custody.
He will re-appear at the same court on Wednesday 11 June 2025.
