A Bellambi man has faced court after a shooting at Woonona earlier this month.
A NSW Police spokesperson said about 11:30 pm on Saturday, 17 May 2025, police from Wollongong Police District were called to a home on Cotterill Avenue, Woonona, following reports of a gunshot.
“Officers attended and spoke with the occupants of the home – a 43-year-old man and a 44-year-old woman,” the NSW Police spokesperson said.
“Damage was located on the front of the home, consistent with a projectile; however, there were no reports of injuries.
“A short time later, emergency services were called to Dallas Avenue, Keiraville, following reports of a Kia hatchback on fire.
“Fire and Rescue NSW attended and worked to extinguish the blaze, however the car suffered significant damage and was seized to undergo forensic examination.
“Police established crime scenes at both locations and began an investigation under Strike Force Baines.
“Following inquiries, police located and arrested a 33-year-old man at a home on Armour Street, Bellambi.”
Police allege that during the arrest the man resisted officers and a Taser and OC Spray were deployed before he was taken to hospital for further assessment.
A search warrant was executed at the Bellambi home and police seized a number of items, including a stolen Honda motorcycle, for forensic examination.
Upon release the man was taken to Wollongong Police Station where he was charged with discharging a firearm with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, two counts of being carried in a vehicle taken without the consent of its owner, acquiring a firearm subject to a prohibition order, driving a motor vehicle during a disqualification period, and hindering or resisting a law enforcement officer in the execution of duty.
He was refused bail and appeared before Parramatta Local Court on Sunday (25 May).
Inquiries into the incident are continuing.
