A 33-year-old man has been charged over multiple pursuits throughout the Illawarra and South Coast earlier this year.
Police were alerted to a motorcycle allegedly exceeding the speed limit on the M1 at Dapto just after 5:30 pm on 26 February. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle after it was sighted at Albion Park shortly after, the rider allegedly accelerated away and a pursuit was initiated.
The pursuit continued south, allegedly reaching speeds of more than 200 km/h before it was terminated due to safety concerns regarding the manner of riding.
Police allege the same motorcycle and rider were involved in another pursuit just before 6 pm on the same day on the Prices Highway.
An investigation was launched and following inquiries, a vehicle was stopped in Sydney’s Northern Beaches on 12 June where the man was arrested and taken to Manly Police Station.
Officers searched him and seized a mobile phone and small clear resealable bag, believed to contain cocaine.
Number plates, electronic equipment, clothing and other items relevant to the investigation were seized from the man’s home during an execution of a search warrant and will undergo forensic investigation.
The man was charged with a number of offences including police pursuit, speeding, reckless or dangerous driving, failure to give information leading to driver’s investigation, not give particulars to owner of damaged property and possession of prohibited drug.
Police will allege in court the man was the motorcycle rider involved in the pursuits in the region and he posted helmet camera footage in which he reached speeds up to 299 km/h to social media.
He was refused bail to appear at Manly Local Court today (Friday 13 June).
