If you want to nurture classical music and do something good for the world, there’s a concert for you.

Music 4 Medicine 2025 features renowned classical pianist Simon Tedeschi alongside talented young Illawarra vocalists Molly Stewart and Olive Cullen with Les Cinq Filles chamber choir, composer Ronan Apcar and the Wollongong Conservatory of Music guitar ensemble.

The fourth Music 4 Medicine concert from Inspire Music Australia will raise money for Medecins Sans Frontiers (MSF).

Organiser Felicity Woodhill said the annual events were a fusion of three things she felt were essential to community wellbeing.

“Live music, supporting young artists and extending joy and humanity beyond our boundaries are really valuable things for a community to do,” she said.

“There’s nothing like live music and bringing people together to share it.

“We are so fortunate to be able to do that and to extend that amazing positive energy to help organisations like MSF.

“It gives us an opportunity to acknowledge what we have and what we can give.”

The two-hour performance will feature piano solos, musical theatre favourites, art songs and arias with something for all ages and all music lovers.

Tickets cost $40, with funds going to MSF.

Felicity said the program, curated by Molly and Olive, was a nod to those who were most vulnerable to conflict and disaster – children.

“I cried when the girls came up with the program,” she said.

“It ranges from humour and wit to loss and sadness, celebrating hope while we seek to give to those who are struggling.

“We chose MSF because it goes where the need is greatest, and what the world is doing to children is heart-wrenching.

“We hope to bring people together to create something positive through their connection with each other and with music.”

Felicity said the Music 4 Medicine concerts were a natural extension of Live Music Australia’s ongoing emerging concert series.

The monthly concerts run out of St Jude’s in Bowral and Wollongong Art Gallery every month and are curated by young local artists, who are paired with a mentor.

The concerts are free and serve the dual purpose of growing young artists’ skills and bringing live music to an audience who may not be able to afford it otherwise.

“Our organisation is about building confidence, love of music and bringing incredible music to our community,” Felicity said.

“Young people who have come through our emerging artists series have gone on to win substantial awards.

“A lot of our concerts are by donation or free because we believe in accessibility.”

The 2025 Music 4 Medicine concert will be held in the main auditorium at the Wollongong Town Hall on Thursday 28 August from 7 pm.
