Feedback is being sought through community pop-ups to help shape two of Kiama’s most popular sports and recreation precincts – the Kiama Sports Complex and South Werri Beach Reserve.
Draft masterplans for each site are on public exhibition and receiving online feedback, with the two community pop-ups organised for Kiama and Gerringong aimed to answer questions and ensure all voices are heard before submissions close on 5 August.
Kiama Mayor Cameron McDonald said it was essential as many people as possible shared their thoughts, questions or concerns about the two sporting sites.
“Our vision is for a healthy, sustainable and caring community and these two precincts have and will continue to play a big role in making that vision a reality,” Cr McDonald said.
“We’ve had lots of feedback, but there’s still time to make your voice heard, so these masterplans can deliver what our community wants.”
Final masterplans will lay out the future for the two facilities, setting out the long-term designs and playing a part in attracting any government funding required to carry out necessary upgrades.
Cr McDonald said the two community pop-ups in Gerringong and Kiama would allow staff to answer questions and gather further feedback.
A pop-up for South Werri Reserve Masterplan will be held at Gerringong Town Hall on 24 July from 4 to 6 pm.
Within the draft masterplan for the site which sits at the southern end of Werri Beach in Gerringong, the community’s desire to preserve as much native habitat as possible has been captured, while creating more opportunities for recreation.
It includes an improved playground, picnic area, skate park and pump track, new basketball court, renewed tennis courts, seating, pathways, shade trees and vegetation.
Kiama Sports Complex Masterplan’s pop-up will be held onsite at the complex on 26 July from 9 to 11 am.
Taking in the Kiama Leisure Centre and the grounds that surround it, the masterplan is designed to address the need for significant upgrades to the playing surface, lighting, buildings and amenities, which are nearing the end of their lifespan.
Minor repairs are no longer enough to keep it functioning at a high standard, as it caters to Little Athletics, cricket, soccer, Oztag, netball and more.
A masterplan provides options for an integrated design with high-quality infrastructure and amenities that aim to enhance sport participation.
Kiama Council received a grant under the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program (Phase 3) to develop the masterplans for the two sites.
Those unable to make the pop-ups can view the plans and make a submission online before they close on 5 August.
