HSC students who need some dedicated, distraction-free study space can head to one of five libraries across the Illawarra for a lock-in study evening.
Library Lock-In Nights invite Year 11 and 12 students to enjoy a relaxed, communal study environment all to themselves. With free access to Wi-Fi, HSC guides, PIPs, databases and more, students can study solo or with friends in a safe and supportive space.
They will take place at Helensburgh, Thirroul, Wollongong, Warrawong and Dapto libraries over the coming weeks.
Everyone’s favourite canine pal Ollie will also make special appearances to offer cuddles and a sympathetic, yet furry, ear.
As exam season ramps up, Wollongong City Council Libraries and Youth Services are stepping in to support young people with more than just textbooks and study guides.
The library’s popular ‘Take 5 to Revive’ stations return for the remainder of the school year, offering students a chance to recharge with calming crafts, handy study aids, and snacks, helping maintain a healthy study-life balance when the pressure is on.
Libraries aren’t the only point of call for study support. Wollongong Youth Services is here to help young people thrive with a range of free programs, safe spaces, and tailored support.
The team has partnered with libraries to offer supported study sessions at the Wollongong Youth Centre on Wednesdays for any student wanting to build their confidence. They can also offer private study spaces for individual or group projects.
Students can tap into creative outlets like Crafts + Chat, book the music studio to jam or prepare for practical exams, or unwind and connect with youth workers for guidance and support.
Wollongong City Council Lord Mayor Cr Tania Brown said she wanted every student in the area to know that the city’s library and youth services were there for them.
“It’s been a few years since I sat my HSC, but I think many of us can remember how intense those months can be,” Cr Brown said.
“Today’s young people face complex challenges – from social media to global uncertainty and the cost of living.
“We want every student to know you’re not alone. Our libraries and youth services are here for you with spaces, support, and plenty of free resources to help you succeed.”
