Two men have been arrested and charged after they allegedly broke into a mine site at Cataract.
A NSW Police spokesperson said police were notified of the alleged break-in at the site off Picton Road at about 2:40 pm on Monday 10 November.
Officers attached to Wollongong Police District responded and found a ute that allegedly had two men inside with their faces covered.
“Police searched the vehicle and seized a large waste bin containing plumbing fixtures and pipe fittings, pressure valves, a toolbox containing 20 brass pipe fittings and a large orange winch,” the NSW Police spokespserson alleged.
“[The equipment was] estimated to be worth about $1000. Police will allege they were stolen.
“Police seized number plates which they will also allege were stolen and seized a number of tools.”
The two men, aged 41 and 45 were arrested and taken to Wollongong Police Station.
The 41-year-old was charged with aggravated break and enter in company and steal property worth less than $60,000, driving a motor vehicle during a disqualification period, and using a class B or C vehicle with an unauthorised number plate affixed and having his face disguised with the intent to commit indictable offence.
The 45-year-old was charged with aggravated break and enter in company and steal property worth less than $60,000 and having his face disguised with the intent to commit an indictable offence.
They were both refused bail and are scheduled to appear in Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday 18 November.
