Elderly man critical after Blackbutt crash

Lake Illawarra Police are appealing for information after an elderly pedestrian was critically injured in a crash on Wednesday evening.

A NSW Police spokesperson said about 6:50 pm on Wednesday (10 December), emergency services were called to Pioneer Drive, Blackbutt, following reports of a crash.

“Officers attached to Lake Illawarra Police District attended and found that an elderly man had been hit by a Nissan utility while crossing a driveway,” the NSW Police spokesperson said.

“The man – aged 86 – was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to St George Hospital in a critical condition.

“The driver of the utility – a 17-year-old boy – was uninjured and taken to Shellharbour Hospital for mandatory testing.”

Police have begun an investigation into the incident and are urging anyone with CCTV, dashcam vision or information about the incident to contact Lake Illawarra Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
