A holiday in Shellharbour doesn’t have to mean compromising on comfort or access.

From a stress-free airport arrival to wheelchair-friendly waterfronts, beaches and attractions, the region is making it easier for everyone to explore, relax and feel welcome — whether you’re visiting or rediscovering your own backyard.

Mid-last year, Shellharbour Airport launched a new “Fly From Home” campaign that had accessibility at the heart of travel, highlighting its stress-free experience and industry-leading inclusive features.

As the aviation gateway to the South Coast with direct flights from Melbourne and Brisbane, Shellharbour Airport offers step-free access, accessible parking, and assistance for passengers with mobility needs.

The terminal’s modern design ensures smooth navigation for wheelchairs and prams, and staff are available to provide support when required.

It’s also a partner with the Sunflower Hidden Disabilities Program, offering safe spaces and assistance for neurodivergent travellers, seniors and people living with disabilities that may not be immediately apparent.

All these features make it easier to reach Shellharbour comfortably and confidently.

Once you — or your visitors — are here, Shellharbour’s natural beauty has been made accessible to all.

Reddall Reserve and Lake Illawarra Foreshore feature wide, level pathways perfect for wheelchairs and walkers, with ramp access to the lake.

Additionally, several beaches offer wheelchair mat access, and beach chairs are available for easy entry to the sand.

If you prefer a pool, then the 50-metre Beverley Whitfield Pool in Shellharbour Village is undergoing works to soon include an accessible ramp into the water, with it already surrounded by accessible pathways.

Viewing platforms at popular coastal spots provide stunning ocean vistas without compromising safety or convenience.

For tours and attractions, the Historical Aircraft Restoration Society Museum (HARS) at Shellharbour Airport is mobility-friendly, with accessible facilities and plenty of space to explore aviation history.

Shellharbour also has many accessible playgrounds and rest-room facilities, including Reddall Reserve’s Pirate Parade Playground — ideal for children who prefer quieter, less-busy environments.

Another inclusive playground was opened at Terry Reserve in Albion Park last summer, with a shaded tower and shopfront, an accessible see-saw, kanga rocker, voice tubes, and a premium double-bay swing.

If you prefer the indoors, Shellharbour has mobility-friendly libraries, while sport lovers can enjoy inclusive stadiums across the municipality.

Many cafes and restaurants offer step-free entry and outdoor seating, making dining out stress-free.

Eateries include Blue Jay Cafe in Albion Park, Lou’s Place Cafe in Shellharbour Village, Georgia Rose in Shell Cove and Oak Flats Bowling Club.

Accommodation providers across the region also cater to guests with accessibility needs, and features can be confirmed when booking.

Options range from holiday houses and apartments to caravan parks, hotels and motels, and bed-and-breakfast locations.

Shellharbour City Council is continuing to invest in inclusive infrastructure, ensuring everyone can enjoy the area’s vibrant community and breathtaking landscapes.

Travel should be for everyone, and in Shellharbour, it certainly is.
