A man allegedly caught sleeping in his car with a homemade gun in Nowra will face a string of charges, police say.
A NSW Police spokesperson said that at about 7:40 am on Monday (9 February), police attended Journal Street, Nowra, following reports from members of the public of a man sleeping in a vehicle with a firearm.
Officers attached to the South Coast Police District responded and located a man allegedly in possession of a privately made firearm.
“Officers seized a homemade firearm, ammunition, a machete, methylamphetamine and cannabis within the vehicle,” the NSW Police spokesperson said.
A 45-year-old man was arrested and taken to Nowra Police Station.
He was charged with eight offences; possessing a loaded firearm in a public place, possessing an unauthorised firearm, possessing ammunition without a permit, goods in personal custody suspected of being stolen, custody of a knife in school, two counts of possessing a prohibited drug and possessing a prescribed restricted substance.
He was refused bail to appear in Bail Division Court 3 today (10 January).
