A Dapto man has been fined $30,000 after asbestos was dumped into bushland off Mt Keira Road.
Engin Celik also came under fire from the NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) for allegedly failing to follow legal directions to clean up the waste.
An EPA spokesperson alleged that on 13 December 2025, a truck with the words ‘Pro Skip Bin Hire’ dumped about 10 tonnes of building waste, including asbestos, at the known illegal dumping hotspot.
The business is registered to Mr Celik.
Following an investigation, on 23 December the EPA issued a clean-up notice to Mr Celik requiring that the material be taken to a lawful waste facility by the end of the year.
NSW EPA Director Dr Katelyn Edge said the clean-up notice was yet to be complied with.
“Illegal dumping of any kind is unacceptable – especially when it involves asbestos,” Dr Edge said.
“People can come up with whatever creative excuses they want; we will pursue illegal dumpers to protect the community and the environment.
“We won’t stand for people dumping hazardous waste in our beautiful bushland.
“Let this be a reminder to the community that when we issue a clean-up notice requiring waste to be removed, there will be consequences if the waste isn’t cleaned up.
“We encourage the community to report any pollution, including illegal dumping, to our 24/7 Environment Line at [email protected] or 131 555,” Dr Edge said.
Mr Celik was issued with a $15,000 fine for the illegal dumping and another $15,000 fine for failing to comply with the clean-up notice.
The Dapto company Pro Skip Bin Hire is a different business to Pro Skips Australia, based in St Marys. There is no suggestion the two are linked.
