A Wollongong man has been charged over multiple alleged break and enters in the Illawarra, including one in which an elderly woman was found dead and another where a man was left with head injuries.

The alleged aggravated break and enters date back to 2022, a NSW Police spokesperson said.

In September last year, police were called to a home on Raymond Parade, Towradgi, following reports of a break and enter.

Police found the 84-year-old female resident of the home deceased. Investigations are continuing into her cause of death. Police also allege jewellery and cash were taken from the home.

The man allegedly remained in the Towradgi house for seven hours, failing to help the woman.

Wollongong Police formed Strike Force Julimar to investigate.

Police allege the man was involved in the break and enter of one home in Bulli’s Owen Street twice – in August 2022 and June 2023.

During the alleged incident in 2022, an 80-year-old man suffered head injuries after being struck by a drawer.

About 8 am on Wednesday (11 February), police arrested a 49-year-old man at a home in Wollongong.

Police seized a taser, items of clothing and an allegedly stolen motorcycle. They also found a road bike, which police will allege was used during the Towradgi break and enter.

He was charged with nine offences – three counts of aggravated break and enter commit serious indictable offence, break and enter house etc steal value <= $60,000, improperly interfere with corpse or human remains, possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit and goods suspected stolen in/on premises.

The man was refused bail and will appear in Bail Division Court on Thursday (12 February).

Investigations are continuing.
