A quick Google search of 74 Shoalhaven Street, Kiama will turn up old photos of a charming circa 1900s home, but visitors to the property that just hit the market will not recognise it.

From its vantage point in the beating heart of Kiama, the stunningly restored home offers a harmonious blend of timeless heritage charm, convenience and luxurious contemporary living.

The five-bedroom, three-bathroom residence has been lovingly preserved to showcase its original charm while embracing contemporary comforts.

“In our vision for this very beautiful old house, we wanted two things – to restore it to its original beauty, and for anyone who entered to think ‘wow’,” the current owner says.

This included a comprehensive recladding of the home, as well as the replacement of the old picket fences with hand-laid, elegant, locally sourced stone outer walls and wrought iron gates, hinting from the exterior at the high calibre craftsmanship seen throughout the property.

High ceilings and beautiful feature windows throughout yield a light-filled interior that offers multiple living options to cater for diverse experiences – whether it’s the bottle of wine shared by the lounge room fireplace or the quiet enjoyment of a good book in the gorgeous sun-washed reading room that was once an attic.

The generous bedrooms all feature either built-in or walk-in wardrobes, set across a floorplan that selling agent Marnie Beauchamp of Belle Property Berry says is built for family living.

“The main bedroom is like a true parents’ retreat, situated on one end of the home, with the other bedrooms at the other end,” she says. “The family has multiple living spaces to gather, but also privacy when they want it.”

Ornate fireplaces, intricate ceiling roses, stained glass features, window bays, stunning timber parquetry flooring and classic architraves remain as a hat tip to the home’s era, while beautifully restored bathrooms and kitchen are a testament to a joyful union of old and new aesthetics.

Outside, the home continues to wow, starting with the wraparound verandah, which seamlessly blends the interior with the exterior, creating a vibrant feel of openness and warmth.

This includes quiet spots to relax while enjoying views towards the iconic Kiama Lighthouse, but also one of the home’s major drawcards – an expansive covered outdoor entertainment space perfect for hosting big celebrations.

Here, the tan outdoor kitchen and alfresco area is defined by a commercial-grade kitchen, with two fridges, full sink, enormous integrated barbecue and food preparation bench all set against a stunning pressed copper background.

The huge TV, ceiling fans, heaters and expansive dining table ensure comfort and flow, creating the ultimate entertainment paradise all year round, maintaining privacy, warmth, shelter and a truly wonderful experience for everyone.

“The space could easily cater to 30 or 40 people – a backdrop for creating amazing memories in any season,” Marnie says.

The backyard of the property transforms into a luxurious wellness retreat that feels like a high-end resort, complete with a rejuvenating seated timber sauna, ice bath and hot/cold outdoor shower for total relaxation and an enormous firepit for sunset gatherings with family and friends.

With a daily dip and coffee but a stroll away, the home offers a surprising level of tranquillity.

Though perhaps one of the most centrally-located properties to the hustle and bustle of Kiama town centre, just 100 m from the main street and walking distance to the harbour, beaches, railway, restaurants and shops, Marnie says beyond the walls is an exceedingly quiet and private haven.

“Shops, restaurants and cafes are literally at your doorstep, and I think because of that most people expect it to be noisy, but once inside they’re blown away by the peace and privacy,” she says. “Perhaps it’s a combination of the trees, the way the home is set back from the street or the solid walls, but even with the doors open, it’s like an oasis.
