Alleged chainsaw threat in Fairy Meadow leads to slew of charges

A 30-year-old Bellambi man was allegedly busted with a swag of illicit goods after he allegedly threatened the occupants of a Fairy Meadow home with a chainsaw.

A NSW Police spokesperson said the man attended an address on Meadow Street about 3:15 pm on Tuesday 16 September.

He allegedly wielded the chainsaw, threatened the occupants of a home and damaged a car with a baseball bat.

Officers attached to Wollongong Police District began an investigation into the incident.

“About 1:30 pm on Wednesday 17 September police stopped a vehicle on Pioneer Street, Corrimal, before they arrested the driver – a 30-year-old man,” the NSW Police spokesperson said.

“He was taken to Wollongong Police Station.

“A search warrant was executed the same day at Rothery Street, Bellambi, where police allegedly seized firearms and ammunition, a chainsaw, and clothing with police insignia.”

The man was charged with threatening a person with the intent to influence a witness, act to pervert the course of justice, damage property, two counts of possessing an unauthorised firearm, possessing ammunition, not keeping a firearm safely, possessing a police uniform and possessing a prohibited drug.

He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court on Thursday 18 September, where he was formally refused bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court on Thursday 2 October.
