A NSW Police spokesperson said the 32-year-old man was arrested on Sunday (15 February).
“About 9:30 pm yesterday, police attended a home in Cooinda Place, Kiama, to arrest a man in relation to an alleged DV incident,” the spokesperson said.
“During the arrest, police will allege the 32-year-old man punched a male constable in the throat and face before the constable deployed OC spray to effect the arrest.
“He was taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station, where he allegedly made threats towards the same male constable and a male leading senior constable.”
Police will allege in court that while in custody, the man punched the leading constable in the face, breaking his glasses and causing cuts to his eyebrow and nose.
Officers then deployed OC spray, and the man was handcuffed again.
NSW Ambulance officers were called and attempted to treat the man, who allegedly declined.
