About Eileen Mulligan

Eileen Mulligan is card-carrying member of the so-called Mitchell Mafia, the graduates of Mitchell College of Advanced Education, now Charles Sturt University, Bathurst. Eileen studied broadcast journalism – then worked for 30-odd years in the print media. Her first job was in Katoomba before moving to Wollongong, where she planned to stay for a couple of years before moving back to Sydney. That was in the 1980s – and she’s still in Wollongong.

She has been a reporter, subeditor, section editor and feature writer for community newspapers, a daily newspaper and national magazines. Her focus has been the people who are the strength of our communities. The environment is also important to her and she has volunteered at an orang-utan sanctuary in Borneo and for Bushcare in the Illawarra. Eileen likes going for long walks in the rain – like the Kokoda Track or on The Camino in Spain. She holds a black belt in hapkido but has hung up her gloves to concentrate on tai chi and yoga.
