A Berkeley man’s usual bedtime routine turned to bedlam when he checked his Weekday Windfall ticket and found himself with a dreamy $1 million win — and the dilemma of “what the hell do we do with all this money?”
The Wollongong resident held the only division one winning entry nationally in Monday’s (26 May) Weekday Windfall draw 4551, proving that counting your numbers before sleep might just beat counting sheep.
When an official from The Lott called to confirm the win, the thrilled winner shared how he made the happy mistake of checking his ticket just before bed.
“I’ve been waiting for your call,” he said, laughing.
“I couldn’t believe my eyes. I saw the winning numbers and I thought, ‘Hang on. Those are all my numbers. Am I looking at the right thing?’.
“Then I opened my app, and sure enough, they were all my numbers. The balloons and confetti went across my screen, and I went into total shock.”
He’s long been familiar with the winning numbers too.
“Funnily enough, I’ve been playing these numbers for 30 years,” he said.
“I once won $4000 with them. Now they’ve really come through.”
However, he admitted he lost sleep over the win, thanks to it sparking some new bedtime action for him and his wife – a late-night brainstorming session.
“I said to my wife, ‘What the hell do we do with all this money?’” he said.
“Then we just stayed up for hours talking about 100 different ideas.”
He said while they were “fantasising of all the possibilities”, they won’t be rushing into any spending decisions.
“For starters, we’ll take a couple of deep breaths and come up with a plan,” he said.
“First order of business is paying off our house.”
His winning entry was purchased via The Lott app – the official home of Australia’s lotteries – with the winning numbers being 10, 2, 20, 6, 31 and 35, with supplementary numbers 40 and 3.
The Lott’s division one winning tally has now reached 408 so far in the 2025 financial year, including 112 won by NSW Lotteries customers.
In 2024, Weekday Windfall, which was formerly Monday and Wednesday Lotto, created 102 millionaires across Australia.
During this time, there were 105 division one winning Weekday Windfall entries across Australia, which collectively won $105 million.
In 2024, more than 195.3 million winners took home more than $4.84 billion in prize money from games at The Lott.
Last financial year, Australia’s official lotteries contributed more than $1.8 billion via state lottery taxes and donations to help community initiatives, such as hospitals, health research, disaster relief and education.
Among the next chances to win big is Thursday night’s Powerball, which has $30 million up for grabs.
Tickets can be purchased at any licensed lottery outlet, online from thelott.com or via The Lott mobile app.
