Community Industry Group is on a mission to fill 100 jobs in just two hours at its Career Accelerator Day in Shellharbour on Tuesday (23 September), encouraging Illawarra and Shoalhaven job seekers to step into a career in aged care.
A free event open to anyone looking to start a career in aged care, it brings together leading aged care providers under one roof, giving attendees the opportunity to meet employers, explore a variety of roles, and apply for jobs on the spot.
Community Industry Group CEO Nicky Sloan said everyone knew of the need to build on the aged care workforce.
“This is about making finding the right job easier,” Ms Sloan said.
“The Career Accelerator Day is designed to connect motivated candidates with real opportunities in a booming sector.
“Our goal is simple: 100 jobs in two hours – and we’re making it happen here in our community.
“Whether you’re returning to work, starting your career, or seeking a meaningful change, aged care offers flexible, rewarding employment with opportunities across care, hospitality, administration, management and more.”
Attendees will be given the opportunity to speak directly with aged care organisations’ HR, recruitment and front line workers to discuss and ask specific questions about their organisations and the jobs they are advertising at the event.
They will also be able to apply for advertised jobs on the spot to accelerate the start of their career in aged care, with attendees encouraged to come prepared with resumes.
Roles won’t be solely around direct care, with opportunities ranging from physios to chefs, drivers and admin within the aged care sector.
Open to men and women of all ages, there is a special offer for women through a partnership with Dress for Success.
An international charity organisation with an Illawarra branch in Warrawong, Dress for Success’ mission is to empower unemployed and underemployed women through providing free professional attire, styling, and career development support to help them achieve financial independence.
“Our friends at Dress for Success are offering a great opportunity for a styled outfit for women who want to attend,” Ms Sloan said.
“They will provide free styling appointments to help them present their best selves to prospective employers.
“And if you get the job, a wardrobe to cover your first week.”
Included with the service will be a complete outfit of clothing, shoes, handbag and accessories, along with personal styling advice from its volunteers.
She said with spaces limited, she encouraged women to get in early to avoid disappointment.
Attendees will also receive a bonus Employment Accelerator Checklist when they register.
