Construction is underway on Shell Cove’s latest apartment building, with Portella expected to welcome residents in 2028.

Builder Richard Crookes Construction broke ground on the project in July, with bulk excavation works now well underway and removal of basement material almost completed.

Sheet piling works around the perimeter of the site have recently been completed and ground anchors are being installed.

Once complete, the apartment harbourside building will include one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments, including a resort-style residents’ rooftop terrace that features a heated pool and sweeping views of the Shellharbour Marina and Shellharbour South Beach.

Sitting within the Frasers Property Australia and Shellharbour City Council community, adjacent to the town centre, it will include ground floor garden residences as well as apartments with ocean, harbour, wetland or parkland views.

More than 65 per cent of Portella residences have been sold, including the two-, three-bedroom penthouses and all of the one-bedroom apartments.

According to Frasers Property Australia, Portella apartments are among the most competitively priced offered at The Waterfront, Shell Cove for some years with two-bedroom apartments priced at $1,050,000 to $1,415,000 and three beds from $1,630,000 to $2,105,000.

That’s in comparison to apartments at the nearby five-storey Vela apartment building, which range from a $3,050,000 three-bedroom garden apartment to a two-bedroom harbourfront apartment for $1,850,000.

Frasers Property Australia development director Mat Gulliver said Shell Cove offered a range of housing options now, from land lots to house and land packages to off-the-plan and apartments.

“The amenity we’ve created here has helped make those decisions easy for many buyers,” Mr Gulliver said.

“There’s really nowhere else on the east coast that can offer a marina with direct blue water access, a stunning white-sand beach, many kilometres of walking paths and boardwalks and a convenient town centre with dining precinct alongside a real variety of housing options.”

He said it was attracting people from all stages of life, from downsizers looking for the perfect retirement residence to first home buyers.

Portella’s construction start comes as the nearby Vela apartment building nears completion.

Featuring a waterfront pool, gym and resident entertainment area, Vela is set to welcome its first residents this month, with a limited number of apartments still available.

Frasers has also been working with the council on other projects, including completion of two new pedestrian bridges linking through to Shellharbour Village and a playground, and Sophia Park, which is due to open in the coming months.

The park will involve a major green space featuring a communal garden, barbecue facilities, sports courts and a dementia-friendly garden and playground.

Work on the Shellharbour Marina Boathouse, to include dry-docking facilities, chandlery and workshop, is on track for completion next year.
