Artists with connections to the Illawarra are invited to leave their mark on the region’s healthcare, with expressions of interest open for contributions to the new Warrawong Community Health Centre.
Selected artworks will feature in the consultation and interview rooms of the new purpose-built community health facility, which will deliver a range of community-based health services in one location.
Health Infrastructure executive director Nicolas Di Condio said the initiative aimed to ensure the new building reflected the people it served.
“The artwork within the new centre will play an important role in creating a welcoming and inclusive environment – one that feels connected to community and reflects the many cultures and identities that make the Illawarra unique,” he said.
The arts play an important role in providing patients, staff and communities with positive experiences within healthcare settings, according to the Health and the Arts Framework 2024-2032.
Artists at all stages of their career who have a connection to the region are encouraged to submit an expression of interest and share examples of their existing work.
Local artists won’t have to go it alone; South Coast Arts has stepped in to provide professional mentoring and application support for those vying for a spot in the new centre. Artists are encouraged to contact Louise Croker via [email protected] or book a meeting online.
South Coast Arts executive director Louise Croker said the opportunity didn’t come often to have artwork integrated into prominent government and health infrastructure.
“This is an important chance for local artists to have their work in a very public setting and as the regional arts development organisation, South Coast Arts is more than happy to help and support you in your submission,” she said. “It’s super easy to hop online and book a time.”
The Warrawong Community Health Centre is being delivered as part of the more than $780 million New Shellharbour Hospital and Integrated Services Project, funded by both the NSW and Commonwealth Governments.
Construction is under way and slated for completion later this year.
“It’s exciting to see the new Warrawong Community Health Centre taking shape, which will improve access to essential health services,” Mr Di Condio said.
Expressions of Interest close at 11.59 pm on 30 April. To register your interest or for more information, visit NSW Government.
