A Kiama Downs man who allegedly crashed his car with a four-year-old child in the back seat has been charged with high-range drink driving.
NSW Police said emergency services were called to the intersection of Meehan Drive and Riverside Drive, Kiama Downs about 9 am on Tuesday following reports of a single vehicle crash.
Lake Illawarra police were told a car had left the road and struck a traffic light.
“The driver allegedly left the scene, in his car, prior to police arrival,” a police spokesperson said.
Police later pulled over a 41-year-old driver on Riverside Drive, Kiama Downs and found a four-year-old boy in the back seat.
The man allegedly returned a positive result to a roadside breath test. He was arrested and taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station, where he returned a reading of 0.281, police allege.
After police discovered the man was a licensed firearms holder they searched a home in Kiama Downs, allegedly seizing four rifles, ammunition and three paintball guns.
His firearms licence and driver’s licence were seized and suspended.
The man was issued with a court attendance notice for high-range PCA to appear in Kiama Local Court on Monday 1 June.
