In a nutshell, who are you?
We are Michael ‘Mouse’ Turner and Reanne Potter, the creative minds behind Mr Booch, a unique gelato fusion business.
How would you describe Mr Booch?
Mr Booch is all about merging the creaminess of gelato with the zing of kombucha, offering a delicious treat that’s inclusive for everyone, be it vegans, dairy-free, nut-free, or gluten-free enthusiasts. It’s about fun, flavour, and embracing dietary inclusivity.
What inspired your business?
Our inspiration was to create a gelato that caters to a wide range of dietary preferences and restrictions while infusing a little adventure into the world of frozen treats.
What product best sums up what your venue does?
The product that best sums up our business is our innovative range of kombucha-infused gelato flavours, each packed with probiotics and flavour. It’s the perfect blend of creativity and taste.
What can’t you go past?
We can’t go past a good bakery – Oh My Days is a favourite of ours. We also love to try new things, especially when it comes to desserts – we’re constantly being inspired by new recipes and tastes.
Favourite cuisine?
Our favourite cuisine would be Japanese. It’s the only thing the whole family agrees on.
What inspires you about the food culture in Wollongong?
The Wollongong food scene is strong. There are so many different offerings to choose from. As a family, we love to try something new each week but we do have a couple of favourites that keep us coming back – Seeker Brewing has the most amazing pizzas (the beers are also some of the best we’ve ever had). Samara’s is also a go-to, along with Roppongi and Bali Spice Magic.
What’s your go-to venue for a special occasion?
Our go-to venue for a special occasion also happens to be our favourite bar – The Black Cockatoo. We love it there, great drinks, brilliant staff and we always have the best time.
Who is the best-kept secret on the food scene locally?
Maybe the best-kept secret on the food scene is the vegan, gluten-free truffle pizza from Seeker Brewing. Hands down the best pizza in the Gong.
Who do you think is an iconic Wollongong food institution?
Bali Spice Magic is an iconic food institution for sure.
Most essential ingredient?
Kombucha, obviously!
What are your top three recipe tips?
Number one – truffle oil on your baked veggies is a must! You can use kombucha as an alternative to apple cider vinegar in most recipes. And a scoop of our gelato with a nip of gin makes for a most delicious cocktail.
