Tell me about your role at By the Sea Takeaway?
I’m the business owner and do everything — from serving our customers to closing shifts and cleaning. It’s hands-on every day.
How did you come to own a takeaway shop in Kiama?
I worked here for a couple of years before taking over. Getting to know the business and the community made the transition natural.
What is your favourite or must-use ingredient when cooking?
Chicken salt makes fish and chips famous around Kiama with tourists and locals alike. But here at By the Sea Takeaway, we set ourselves apart with our special spice mix — that’s our signature.

Are there any upcoming projects you’re working on?
We’re always exploring ways to blend Aussie culture with Indian food flavours — it’s what keeps things fresh. Every day at the fish and chips shop feels like a new project in itself.
Who has been the biggest influence in your career?
My everyday customers. Their feedback and loyalty drive everything I do.
What’s your morning routine?
I start at 7 am at the shop, balance time with my daughter throughout the day, and work until 8 pm. It’s our everyday rhythm.
When you can’t be bothered to cook for yourself, where do you go and what do you eat?
Pretty much anywhere in Kiama — because Kiama is both my workplace and my home.
What makes Kiama so unique to you?
Everything here has been hard-earned, and the friendships I’ve built mean the world to me. It’s worth every bit of effort. I’d like to say thank you to Kiama through this article.
What’s your advice for someone starting in their career?
Keep going and never give up. The work and time you invest will pay you back — I promise.
If someone had 24 hours to spend in your local area, where should they go and what should they do?
Explore the local shops, take the coastal walk of Kiama, and don’t miss the hidden gem where the sun rises from the sea and sets over the Jamberoo Mountains. And of course, grab fish and chips at By the Sea Takeaway!
