At about 9 am on Monday (9 February), police were called to the northbound lanes of the M1 south of Bellambi Creek, following reports a car left the roadway and struck a tree.

A NSW Police spokesperson said officers attached to Wollongong Police District responded and began CPR, before NSW Ambulance arrived and continued CPR; however, the 60-year-old male driver died at the scene.
