Long before its current owners reimagined it, 6 Tomerong Street, Huskisson had already lived more than one life.

Built in the 1950s with sandstone said to have been hewn from a nearby national park, the story goes that it was the sturdy home of the local Huski publican back in the day.

Decades later, it transformed into one of the South Coast’s most recognisable bed-and-breakfasts, Dolphin Sands, which ran for about 16 years.

Today, behind the familiar facade, the house has been reinvented yet again — this time as a modern family home with a remarkable history and hidden potential for extra income.

While the inside of the home has been revamped, Tim McGoldrick of McGoldrick Estate Agents says the aesthetic remains consistent and harmonious.

“The renovations are extensive, especially to the kitchen and bathrooms, but at the same time sympathetic to the look and feel of the home,” he says. “It’s been thoughtfully reimagined by Arthouse Design and brought to life by Stallard Constructions, and they’ve delivered a truly beautiful outcome.”

Set on a 1197 sqm block behind secure gates, the north-facing home is characterised by light-filled interiors with soaring ceilings, timber floors and plantation shutters.

The main residence boasts three bedrooms, each with its own bathroom and built-in wardrobe, except the luxurious master suite, which has a walk-in wardrobe. The detached studio has its own bathroom and kitchenette.

A happy quirk of its stint as a bed-and-breakfast, this configuration makes for versatile living.

“For anyone looking to invest in a B&B in a vibrant tourism location, or additional rental income, that’s a big drawcard. But it’s also a terrific option for guests or teenagers,” Tim says.

“It’s very private — you can’t really see this extra dwelling from the main house, and it has its own access and shares a dual driveway.

“We’ve also had interest from downsizers who love the location, with the ability to walk into the village and grab coffee and host family when they come to stay.”

The heart of the home is the gourmet kitchen. Complete with a butler’s pantry, it anchors the open-plan living and dining zone, as well as the additional living space.

These spaces spill effortlessly out to two expansive entertaining terraces and leafy, easy-care, private gardens alive with birdlife.

“You have north- and south-facing terrace options when you want to entertain outdoors,” Tim says. “And with multiple indoor living spaces as well, you can escape any way you want to.”

Other useful features include a wood-burning fireplace, ducted air conditioning and ceiling fans for year-round comfort, a double lock-up garage with a handy workshop, space for boats or caravans and additional security features such as cameras and a monitor.

With a storied past, this home is now ready for its next chapter.

“It offers a rare chance to secure a piece of local history, just a short stroll from the beach, cafes and the vibrant main street,” Tim says.
