An Illawarra police officer who faces 19 domestic violence related charges has been reprimanded for breaching his bail conditions to go skydiving.
The man, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, appeared before Judge Christine Mendes at Wollongong District Court on Tuesday (28 October).
He faces multiple charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, intimidation, non-consensual choking, sexual assault and rape against the same woman.
The alleged offences span a period of time from 17 May 2018 until 24 January 2024, and allegedly took place predominantly in the Shellharbour local government area.
The man has pled not guilty to all charges.
He did, however, admit he had breached his bail.
Under his bail conditions the man is not to enter the Shellharbour local government area, except to complete school pick-ups and drop-offs.
On Wednesday, 8 October however, he took part in a group skydiving session that initially met in Stuart Park Wollongong before the group was taken by bus to Shellharbour Airport.
The Crown did not seek to have the man’s bail revoked.
“This is clearly outside your bail,” Judge Mendes said.
“I remind the respondent in very clear terms that bail involves conditional liberty.
“If you breach the conditions of your liberty you will be back in this court and next time you might not be so lucky.”
The man has been committed for trial from 25 May 2026, at the Downing Centre in Sydney.
A spokesperson for NSW Police said the man had been suspended from the force, with pay, prior to his breach of bail.
