Wild weather across the Illawarra and South Coast over the weekend created plenty of work for the region’s SES volunteers.
Much of the region experienced heavy rain, with more than 210 mm recorded in 24 hours at Currarong, and wind gusts of up to 80 km/h at Bellambi and Albion Park knocked down trees, damaged roofs and led to flash flooding across some roads.
Between midnight Friday (28 March) and 10 am Monday (31 March), the NSW SES responded to 236 incidents in southeastern NSW.
Nowra recorded the highest number, with 41 incidents, followed by Wollongong with 31, Shellharbour with 29, Kiama with 28 and Dapto with 17.
Further south and up to the Southern Highlands, 19 incidents needed help from the SES in St Georges Basin, 16 in the Wingecarribee district, 15 in Moss Vale, 14 in Moruya and 10 in Ulladulla.
Volunteers rescued the occupants of a vehicle from floodwaters at Wattamolla on Friday night. NSW SES was called to Priddles Lane after the vehicle became stuck in floodwaters while trying to cross a creek.
Everyone inside was rescued and accounted for.
The Bureau of Meteorology forecasts a drier week ahead.
Clouds will stick around all week and there’s a chance of showers Monday (31 March), Tuesday (1 April), Thursday (3 April) and Friday (4 April).
The weekend ahead is looking brighter, with Saturday (5 April) and Sunday (6 April) forecast to be mostly sunny and a high of 26 degrees on Saturday.
