Picturesque Kiama Harbour foreshore will again be the setting for the spectacular New Year’s Eve Sky Show, promising fun, inclusivity, and sustainability.

Revellers will be able to ring in the new year with dazzling fireworks, live music, roaming entertainers, and accessibility features such as sensory tents and priority seating for an evening designed to accommodate everyone.

Mayor Cameron McDonald said, as with previous years, a key focus for the Sky Show was ensuring everyone could enjoy the evening, by providing a range of accessibility features.

“Kiama Council is committed to making the New Year’s Eve Sky Show a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable event for all,” Cr McDonald said.

“We want to ensure everyone who wants to enjoy the show can enjoy the show, so we’ve got accessible parking, drop off and pick up zones and priority seating that ensures a clear, comfortable view of the festivities.”

He said there would also be a sensory tent located in the newly renovated Hindmarsh Park, providing a calm space for guests in need of a break from the high-energy atmosphere.

“We are delighted to have teamed up with Uniting to have a sensory tent to support individuals and families with varying needs and make our celebration welcoming for everyone,” he said.

Fireworks Australia, who are pioneers in eco-friendly fireworks, will again emphasise sustainability through the Sky Show by crafting the display using innovative materials.

This includes the casings and inserts being made from rice straw and calcite mineral, eliminating the use of cardboard, lead, or other heavy metals.

Any waste material from the display, such as copper wire, is redirected to recycling to minimise environmental impact.

Celebrations will begin with Aunty Gwenda Jarrett opening the festivities at 4 pm with a Welcome to Country, before live music from Kane Cali, Blessie Pica, and DJ Clayton Zane Comber.

Hindmarsh Park will feature Laughter House Little Big Stage bringing an entertaining program, entertainers Curious Legends will roam the crowds, and Kiama Family Carnival will bring the action to the north side of the foreshore.

Then, the night will be capped off with the fireworks display at 9 pm.

Restaurants and cafes will open late for closed street dining overlooking Hindmarsh Park.

Alternatively, head towards the blowhole for Eat Street in Terralong Street, where food trucks will offer everything from hamburgers to tacos, or Sweet Street in Shoalhaven Street where there’s sure to be something to tickle tastebuds.

After the fireworks, night owls can extend their New Year’s Eve celebrations at late-night venues such as Kiama Inn Hotel, The Grand Hotel, Kiama Leagues Club, Miss Arda, Little Betty’s and the nearby Kiama Golf Club in Kiama Downs.

Additional train services northbound and southbound will be running after the show or, for those who need to drive, Jamberoo Rural Fire Service will be managing parking at Kiama Leisure Centre for a $5 donation, with a free special event shuttle bus to and from the centre of town.

Road closures around Kiama Harbour will be in place from 2 pm, with restricted parking from noon.

There will be ‘no stopping’ zones on Akuna Street from 2 – 7 pm to accommodate bus detours, managed by traffic control personnel.

Priority seating is free and can be prebooked via the Destination Kiama website. However, positions are limited, with first come, first served.

Attendees should be mindful that the fireworks display will feature flashing and strobing effects – which may affect individuals with light sensitivity or epilepsy – along with amplified sounds.
