Man arrested after firearms bust at Koonawarra home

A man has been charged with a string of firearms-related offences following a police investigation.

A NSW Police spokesperson said officers raided a Koonawarra home at about 2:45 pm on Monday (23 June) as part of an ongoing investigation.

The officers were at the Galong Crescent home to conduct a Firearms Prohibition Order compliance check.

The NSW Police spokesperson said during the search police found a shortened bolt-action rifle and more than 50 rounds of various calibre ammunition.

“The items were seized and will undergo a forensic examination,” the NSW Police spokesperson said.

“Following inquiries, about 7:40 pm on Thursday (26 June), police conducted a vehicle stop at a shopping centre in Shellharbour and arrested a 37-year-old man.

“During a search of the man and the vehicle, police located approximately 3.3 grams of white powder, which police will allege in court to be methylamphetamine.”

The man was taken Wollongong Police Station and charged with acquiring an unregistered firearm, acquiring a firearm without a licence, acquiring a firearm while subject to a prohibition order, possessing a loaded firearm in a public place, possessing ammunition without a licence, acquiring ammunition while subject to a prohibition order, not keeping a firearm safely and possessing a prohibited drug.

He was refused bail to appear before Wollongong Local Court on Friday (27 June).
