Man charged after filming a child at Wollongong Harbour

A man will face court today charged with possession of child abuse material in the Illawarra.

A NSW Police spokesperson said at about 3:15 pm on Saturday (7 September), police were called to the corner of Marine Drive and Crown Street, Wollongong, following reports a man was allegedly filming a child at Wollongong Harbour.

“Officers attached to Wollongong Police District Police attended and seized the man’s phone for forensic examination and issued him with a move on direction,” the NSW Police spokesperson said.

“Following inquiries, at about 5:30 pm on Sunday (8 September), police attended a home in Smith Street, Wollongong.

“An iPad, laptop and mobile phone were seized.

“A 66-year-old man was arrested and taken to Wollongong Police Station, where he was charged with possessing child abuse material.”

The man was refused bail to appear before Wollongong Local Court today (9 September).
