A man has been refused bail following a police pursuit involving an allegedly stolen vehicle which ended in a crash yesterday.
Wollongong Traffic and Highway patrol officers attempted to stop the allegedly stolen utility on the Princes Highway at North Wollongong at 7:30 am on Thursday (16 January), but when the driver allegedly failed to comply, a pursuit was initiated.
Police pursued the vehicle onto Memorial Drive before it took the on-ramp exit towards the M1 Princes Motorway and crashed into the concrete barrier on the hairpin bend.
The 30-year-old male driver and 38-year-old male passenger were treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics for chest and back injuries.
Both men were arrested and taken to Wollongong Hospital under police guard.
The 30-year-old man was later released from hospital and taken to Wollongong Police Station, where he was charged with police pursuit, dangerous and negligent driving, never having a licence and goods in custody suspected of being stolen.
He was refused bail in Wollongong Local Court on Thursday and due to reappear today (17 January).
