Man charged over Oak Flats blaze

A man has been charged following a fire in Oak Flats earlier this year.

At about 2:30 am on Wednesday, 12 February 2025, emergency services were called to Fisher Street, Oak Flats, following reports of a fire in the backyard of a home.

The 39-year-old man inside the home managed to extinguish a fire at the rear of the property before he noticed a second fire near the electricity box at the front of the house.

Fire and Rescue responded and extinguished the second blaze. No one was injured.

A NSW Police spokesperson said a 46-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday (11 June), at Lake Illawarra Police Station following inquiries.

The man was charged with damaging property by fire, using a prohibited weapon contrary to a prohibition order and supplying prohibited drugs.

He was refused bail to appear before Wollongong Local Court today, June 12, 2025.
