UPDATED Monday 25 August, 9:30 am: A man has died after he was found stabbed in a Wollongong unit block last week. The 28-year-old man was taken to Wollongong Hospital on Sunday 17 August and later transferred to St George Hospital where he died on Saturday (23 August). A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
20 August: Police are seeking information about a stabbing in Wollongong on the weekend.
A NSW Police spokesperson said at about 3:20 am on Sunday (17 August) emergency services were called to a unit on Crown Street, Wollongong.
There were reports of a person with a stab wound.
“Officers attached to Wollongong Police District responded and were told the man left the unit, before returning a short time later suffering a stab wound and collapsing in the unit complex,” the NSW Police spokesperson said.
“NSW Ambulance paramedics responded and commenced CPR, treating a 28-year-old man with a stab wound to the chest.
“He was taken to Wollongong Hospital, before being transferred to St George Hospital in a critical condition.”
Police have urged anyone with information, dashcam or CCTV footage around the time of the incident on Crown Street, Wollongong between Parkside Avenue and Harbour Street, to contact Wollongong Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
