A NSW police spokesperson said the Sydney men were believed to regularly visit the Kiama, Gerringong and Jervis Bay areas for rock fishing. Tuesday 27 January: A man’s body was found on the shoreline north of Black Head Reserve in Gerroa on Tuesday afternoon (27 January) during a search for a missing fisherman.
A search was sparked on Monday afternoon (26 January) after Lake Illawarra police were informed of a missing persons report relating to two rock fishermen who had travelled from Southern Sydney and failed to return.
A command post was set up at Black Head Reserve and the search started with NSW Police Rescue Squad, State Emergency Service, Marine Rescue NSW, Surf Life Saving NSW and Lifesaver helicopter.
The search was suspended at 9 pm that night and resumed at 6 am on Tuesday morning.
About 2:45 pm on Tuesday afternoon, the body of a man believed to be that of the missing fisherman was found north of the Black Head Reserve.
“Inquiries are continuing to confirm if the body of a man found about 4 pm on Sunday (25 January), on the shoreline off Black Head Reserve, on Headland Road, Gerroa, belongs to a second fisherman reported missing yesterday,” a NSW Police spokesperson said.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
