There is perhaps no more aptly named property in the Illawarra than Cliffhaven.

The iconic property located at 2 Paterson Road, Coalcliff offers an extraordinarily immersive and dynamic oceanic outlook and soundtrack that strikes you from your first step through the door.

“The further through you walk, the more the magnitude of its location unfolds, until you feel like you could literally reach out and touch the water,” One Agency’s Kane Downie says.

“The rock shelf between the house and the ocean is ever-changing with the tides, from dry and walkable to completely submerged. You can also see right around to the national park up the coast.

“Usually views this spectacular come from elevation but this is somehow equally powerful, yet right in the action.”

At the heart is a 1900s cottage with a charming aesthetic underpinned by lime-washed timber flooring and loads of natural light.

Over the past 30 years, the current owners have elevated this with a clever contemporary renovation, building upwards with a luxurious master bedroom with a dressing room and an ensuite complete with underfloor heating, heated towel rails, a double basin and a luxe rain shower.

They also built outwards with architect-designed wings reaching from each of the bedrooms and bathroom to capture ocean views.

“The house is probably one of the most iconic houses for anyone driving from Sea Cliff Bridge, with distinctive glass panels that provide privacy and direct the eye out to the water,” Kane says.

The main floor is characterised by open-plan living, anchored by the stylish stone kitchen incorporating high-end Neff appliances. This flows to a dining room and a living room, complete with a slow combustion wood fire, creating a cosy spot to take in the sounds of the surf with a beverage and something to read.

This in turn spills out through stacker doors to an expansive outdoor entertaining deck.

“The exclusivity to the ocean is unparalleled — it’s the closest property along the coast to the water,” Kane says.

Outside is a level grassed yard and a hot/cold outdoor shower, easing the transition from ocean dip to home.

“A walkway along the grass shoreline takes you easily down onto the beach and rock platform,” Kane says. “If you’re a mad keen fisherman, that’s a great spot to throw a line — though you may even be able to hit the water from your balcony.”

Other useful features include ceiling fans, ducted air conditioning, day and night blinds, privacy screens, a remote access double garage, vast under-house storage and a 4.8 kW rooftop solar system.

The home is ideally positioned at the northern end of the internationally acclaimed Sea Cliff Bridge and is adjoined by council reserve on two sides.

It offers privileged access to Leeder Park and playground 150 m away, as well as Coalcliff’s Oceanside Pool, dog-friendly beach, rainforested escarpment, plus the convenience of train transport to Sydney or Wollongong.

Expressions of interest close at 3 pm on Friday 1 May.
