Motorcycle riders killed in two Illawarra crashes

A man and a teenager have died in two separate motorcycle accidents in the Illawarra in less than 24 hours.

A motorcycle rider, believed to be aged in his 50s, died after his bike and a ute collided about 1 pm on Saturday, on the Old Princes Highway at Helensburgh.

The rider, who is yet to be identified, died at the scene.

The 26-year-old male ute driver was not injured and was taken to hospital for mandatory testing.

Wollongong Police and the Crash Investigation Unit are looking into into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

The Old Princes Highway was closed in both directions between Helensburgh and Waterfall.

About 7:50 pm on Friday (30 May), emergency services were called to Terry Street, Albion Park.

Lake Illawarra Police and the Dog Unit arrived to find a motorcycle had crashed after leaving the road.

The 17-year-old male rider was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics for serious injuries before being taken to Wollongong Hospital where he later died.

Police established a crime scene and detectives are investigating the incident.

Detectives urged anyone with dashcam vision, CCTV footage or information about the incident to contact Lake Illawarra Police.

A report will be prepared for the information of the coroner.
