A motorcyclist was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after a collision with an alleged drunk p-plate driver in Albion Park Rail on Sunday night (31 August), prompting police to appeal for witnesses and dashcam footage.

Emergency services responded to reports of a crash at 7:55 pm between a motorcycle and a blue Honda Civic at the intersection of Princes Highway and Kaylaur Crescent in Albion Park Rail.

Officers from Lake Illawarra Police District established a crime scene, which was examined by specialist police.

“NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the 45-year-old male rider at the scene before he was airlifted to Liverpool Hospital in a serious condition,” a NSW Police spokesperson said.

“The driver, a 22-year-old man, was uninjured but allegedly returned a positive roadside breath test.”

The spokesperson said the Honda driver, who held a provisional licence, was arrested and taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station where he allegedly returned a positive breath test and had his provisional licence suspended.

He was then taken to Shellharbour Hospital for mandatory testing, before being released pending further enquiries.

As investigations continue, police are urging anyone with information about the crash, or who was in the area at the time with any available dashcam or mobile phone footage, to contact Lake Illawarra Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
