Motorists warned of closures, delays on major Illawarra roads

A number of Illawarra roads will be impacted by maintenance work over the next fortnight, resulting in closures, detours and reduced speed limits.

Weather permitting, work will be carried out on the M1 Princes Motorway between Bulli Tops and Memorial Drive, Picton Road, Lawrence Hargrave Drive between Stanwell Park and Helensburgh, Masters Road at Figtree and the M1 Princes Motorway from North Wollongong to Figtree.

Work will include road repair and resurfacing, maintaining signs, vegetation and safety barriers, clearing gutters and drains, as well as litter collection.

The M1 Princes Motorway between Bulli Tops and Memorial Drive, and Picton Road between the motorway and Almond Street at Wilton will be closed on Sundays 10, 17 and 24 August between 8 pm and 4 am.

During this time work will also be carried out on Mt Ousley Interchange, including installation of barriers and signs, removing existing signs and gantries, piling work for new signage and gantries, building site access gates, removing guardrail, drainage work, relocating utilities, installing temporary street lighting, road resurfacing and line marking.

On all work dates, Picton Road eastbound will be closed from 7:30 pm to 4 am to ensure the motorway is clear by 8 pm.

Motorists travelling between Wollongong and Bulli Tops will be detoured via Memorial Drive and Bulli Pass and should allow up to 15 minutes’ additional travel time.

Motorists travelling between Wollongong and the Hume Motorway will detour via Memorial Drive, Bulli Pass and Appin Road, and should allow up to 40 minutes’ additional travel time.

Light vehicles can also use Wilton Road at Broughton Pass between Appin and Picton roads.

Motorists travelling to the Hume Motorway can also detour via the Illawarra Highway at Macquarie Pass.

Heavy vehicles over 19 metres long and more than 50.5 tonnes will not be able to access Bulli Pass or Macquarie Pass.

Work will be carried out on Lawrence Hargrave Drive between Stanwell Park and Helensburgh from Monday 11 to Thursday 14 August between 8 pm and 4 am.

The road will be closed on Monday 11 August between Railway Crescent at Stanwell Park and Stonehaven Road at Stanwell Tops, from 8 pm to 4 am.

Detours will be in place via the M1 Princes Motorway and Bulli Pass, as well as Otford Road and Walker Street, with motorists advised to allow up to 20 minutes’ additional travel time.

From Tuesday 12 to Thursday 14 August between 8 pm and 4 am, stop/slow traffic control and a reduced speed limit of 40 km/h will be in place on Lawrence Hargrave Drive between Stonehaven Road at Stanwell Tops and the Princes Highway at Helensburgh. Motorists are advised to allow up to 10 minutes’ additional travel time.

Masters Road will be closed between Springhill Road and the M1 Princes Motorway at Figtree on the westbound lanes between 8 pm and 4 am on Monday 11 August and on the eastbound lanes between 8 pm and 4 am on Tuesday 12 August.

Detours will be in place via the M1 Princes Motorway, Five Islands and Springhill roads, with motorists advised to allow up to 10 minutes’ additional travel time.

From Monday 18 to Thursday 21 August, work will be carried out on the M1 Princes Motorway from Memorial Drive at North Wollongong to Masters Road at Figtree between 8 pm and 4 am.

During work, single lane closures and a reduced speed limit of 40 km/h will be in place.

There will be intermittent closures of the on- and off-ramps on the M1 Princes Motorway between Memorial Drive and Masters Road. Detours will be signposted.
