Motorists have been warned there will be lane closures on the M1 Princes Motorway for night work on the Mt Ousley interchange.
The work will start on Monday, 25 March and continue from Mondays to Thursdays until 18 April.
The $390 million project to improve the region’s “economic artery” will replace the existing intersection of the Princes Motorway and Mt Ousley Road, removing the dangerous right-hand turn heading north across three lanes of traffic.
The upgrade will also include:
- Heavy vehicle only bypass lanes for southbound travel, separating cars and heavy vehicles
- Two new heavy vehicle safety ramps
- A new commuter carpark and separate incident response facility
- Upgrades and widening of the existing pedestrian bridge over the motorway at Northfields Avenue.
More than 50,000 vehicles travel on the M1 through the area each day, with heavy vehicles making up about 15 per cent of the total.
Transport for NSW says the night work will minimise traffic disruptions and ensure the safety of workers and road users.
Work to be carried out will include survey, vegetation removal, pavement and geotechnical investigations, delivery of containers and site sheds and installation of signs.
No work will be carried out over the Easter holiday period from Thursday 28 March until Monday 1 April.
During the night work, traffic control and reduced speed limits will be in place for:
- Southbound shoulder and slow lane closures of the motorway between Mt Ousley Road and Northfields Avenue
- Northbound shoulder and slow lane closures of the motorway between Northfields Avenue and Mt Ousley Road
- Westbound lane closure with stop slow traffic control on Mt Ousley Road
- Stop slow traffic control on the northbound motorway on- and off-ramps, Northfields Avenue, Irvine Street and the motorway.
