The Illawarra has arranged all the makings of an egg-cellent Easter long weekend this week, with an array of Easter events and some other cool stuff too.
All-weekend events are happening at Albion Park, Oak Flats, Unanderra and at the Illawarra Fly, and on Easter Sunday, you’ll be spoiled for choice of family-friendly Easter events at venues across the region.
Outside of Easter is everything from massive live music events in Wollongong to Nan Tien Temple’s beloved Buddha’s Birthday Multicultural Festival.

All Weekend
Bunny Run
When: Friday 29 March to Monday 1 April, 11 am and 1:30 pm

The Illawarra Fly’s beloved Bunny Run is back this long weekend. The Easter Bunny has visited the Enchanted Forest and hidden bunny ears for you to find. Find the ears along the Enchanted Forest trail – make sure you check with the fairies and mermaids; they may have clues. Anyone who finds one can take it to admissions to receive a sweet surprise.
Note: This activity is free with any admission to the venue, and there is a limit of one chocolate egg per person.
Ready Set Play Easter Egg Hunt
When: Saturday, 30 March and Sunday 31 March, two-hour sessions from 9 am to 4 pm

For parents looking for low-hanging fruit (or chocolates) this Easter, Ready Set Play has done all the organising. Each two-hour session is packed with fun and includes a set of bunny ears, a free photo with the Easter Bunny, Easter crafts and cookie decorating, finding the bunnies’ eggs (swap plastic eggs for real Easter eggs), and the chance to enter the colouring competition.
Easter Long Weekend at Lakeview Hotel Motel

Lakeview Hotel Motel is stretching the Easter good times over the long weekend. On Good Friday (29 March) there will be seafood specials all day. Easter Saturday (30 March) brings live tunes and good vibes to the Beer Garden, courtesy of local legend Alex Specogna. And the big day is Easter Sunday, with face painting from 11:30 am, an Easter egg hunt with the Easter Bunny from 12:30 pm and live music with Kye Hall. Anyone who purchases a main meal over the Easter long weekend will also go into the draw to win a 10 kg block of Cadbury chocolate, drawn on Monday evening.
2024 Nan Tien Cultural Festival Creative Art Workshops

Easter Family Fun Day

Grab the kids and grandkids, pile into the car and make your way over to The Lake Illawarra Hotel for a day filled with egg-citing activities. Expect all the family fun day favourites including face painting, an Easter egg hunt, arts and crafts, an egg and spoon race, an Easter hat parade and much more in the kids’ playground area. For those looking for an easy way to occupy the kids this Easter long weekend, this is an egg-cellent start.
2024 Nan Tien Buddha’s Birthday Multicultural Festival
When: Friday 29 March, 9 am to 5 pm
Where: Nan Tien Temple, 180 Berkeley Road, Berkeley

This year’s festival is billed as a “cultural delight”, with various activities and things to do, including creative sand art workshops, a vegetarian food fair, art exhibitions, children’s storytelling and meditation, a treasure hunt, cultural activities, creative art activities, outdoor games and the Bathing of the Buddha Ceremony. There will also be a highly popular Baby Blessing Ceremony (bookings required) for all children under five, which will take place in the Main Shrine on Saturday 30 March, at 2 pm. It is open to all families who wish their children to receive a Buddhist blessing for a happy, healthy and fulfilled life.

Easter at The Shellharbour Club

The Shellharbour Club is pulling out all the stops this weekend. All weekend, members can take advantage of the “Follow the White Rabbit” promotion by purchasing a White Rabbit Chocolate Stout from Velvet Bar until Sunday 31 March for the chance to win an egg-citing YETI bundle worth $945. Also all weekend, children are invited to enter the “Egg-citing Colouring Comp” – simply grab a colouring sheet at reception and submit your drawing before Sunday 31 March, and the most creative entry will win a $50 kids gift card (announced on social media on Tuesday 2 April).
On Easter Sunday, festivities await the whole family. There will be a giant roving Easter Bunny handing out chocolate eggs to all, free airbrush tattoos, a free screening of the Peter Rabbit movie and the “Creme-Egg-splosion” – a special Easter soft serve at Bon Bon all Easter long.
Easter Eggstravaganza Egg Hunt

The Eat Shop Love team brings Easter-themed fun to the Georgia Rose Market. The Easter Bunny himself will be available for photos and to say hi. But the highlight will be the egg hunt. Over three sessions kids can hunt for plastic eggs, and everyone receives a prize at the end of the hunt. Tickets are required for the Easter Egg Hunt, and no tickets will be available on the day – so hop to it!
Ocean Alley
