Wollongong motorists are being urged to plan well ahead, with a section of Crown Street set to close overnight from Wednesday (1 October) for works linked to the Wollongong Hospital redevelopment.
From 3 pm on Wednesday until 10 am on Thursday, Crown Street will be closed between New Dapto Road and Darling Street.
Traffic is expected to be heavy, particularly during the Wednesday evening and Thursday morning peak times, adding at least 10 minutes to travel for commuters.
Motorists are advised to avoid Crown Street during the closure, and instead use a detour via New Dapto Road, Loftus Street and Darling Street.
Alternative routes in and out of Wollongong will be available via Masters Road, Springhill Road and Corrimal Street to the south, and Memorial Drive, Princes Highway/Flinders Street to the north.
Drivers won’t be the only ones affected, with the closure impacting three bus stops between New Dapto Road and Darling Street.
These bus stops will temporarily relocate to Crown Street, east of Darling and Osborne streets.
Wollongong Hospital works are part of the NSW Government’s Wollongong Health Precinct Strategy, which involves the radical redevelopment of Wollongong’s health precinct.
