Police allege Oak Flats man chained his partner in their home

An Oak Flats man has been charged after he allegedly chained up and assaulted his partner.

The man was arrested after a 32-year-old woman attended Lake Illawarra Police Station in August 2025 to report alleged domestic violence offences.

She had to be treated at Shellharbour Hospital for fractures to her eye socket as well as multiple fractures to her ribs.

Officers attached to Lake Illawarra Police District began an investigation, and a NSW Police spokesperson said they will allege in court a 34-year-old man who is known to the woman detained her by chaining her up in their home on The Esplanade, Oak Flats.

“Police will allege between July and August 2025, the woman was subjected to ongoing physical assaults and, on one occasion, scissors and a meat tenderiser were thrown at her,” the NSW Police spokesperson said.

“A 34-year-old man was arrested at a home on The Esplanade, Oak Flats, about 1:30 pm on Wednesday 6 August 2025 and charged with five offences.”

The initial offences were detain a person with intent to obtain advantage (domestic violence), common assault (domestic violence), kidnap with intent to commit actual bodily harm, assault occasioning actual bodily harm (domestic violence), and stalk or intimidate.

He was refused bail.

Following further legal advice, the same man has now been charged with an additional six offences.

These include sexual intercourse without consent (domestic violence), an additional count of common assault, two counts of intentionally choke a person with recklessness, assault occasioning actual bodily harm (domestic violence) and intend abusive behaviour to coerce or control an intimate partner (domestic violence).

The man has been held in custody since his first appearance in court in August last year.

He appeared in Wollongong Local Court on Wednesday (4 February).
